Matei Guesthouse
Matei Guesthouse is located in Berca, in Buzău Land, on the shoreline of Buzău river. It enjoys a privileged location, ideal to travel to the mud volcanoes, or to other objectives in the area. The guesthouse offers rooms with view to the river, a generous garden and a renowned restaurant, with traditional cuisine, which has won many prizes throughout the years. The main ingredients used in the kitchen are the Pleșcoi sausages, the babic, the special Buzău onion and bagels, and sheep pastrami. Every beginning of October, the guesthouse hosts the Pleșcoi Sausages Festival.
From Matei Guesthouse you can easily reach the four mud volcano sites: the Boilers from Berca, the Small and Large Mud Volcanoes and the Boilers from Beciu. You can visit the interactive GeoGate exhibit and, just a stone’s throw away, you can visit the Fortified Monastery of Berca and the Rătești Monastery, both historical monuments. You can drive to the Salt River Valley, where you can enjoy the salt domes, the eternal flames, the Time of Man Museum and the 7 Fairytale Places Museum, or you can always go to other areas of Buzău Land. The surroundings are perfect for hiking and cycling, especially if you go towards Viforâta or Scorțoasa.
